I have a question here... why is it that as a browse through the many pages of this thread, some pictures have perfect sharpness at 500mm while others have haloing / CA in them? Saw a heron shot a few pages back and I was like WOW, but then some shots are kind of "hmm". Copy variation? User input / "error"?

i think that most of the shots that look good have had some degree of processing. This is usually the case with any lens.

Thought it turned out pretty well for a closeup

Your shots are very good but usually very small to tell if the lens is any good.

On the way back home I ran across the river boat races in Riggins Idaho. As a former APBA SST45 driver I had to stop and take a few shots. Canon 1D MKII and Sigma 150-500

Ok this is probably a stupid question but how do you shoot at that point of view? It looks like you were positioned at a higher position than the jet. How does that work?

Thank you Ziggy!
Picasa changed the way they render "original" sized images. Earlier not specifying the pixel size rendered the original, but without any notification they changed that to default to 512px

To view the web size.
1. Right click on the image, copy image location
2. Just before the /IMG add "/s850"
Essentially the img source

I like this lens. it has good contrast and color, not razor sharp wide open but very good when stopped down to f/8, and focus is a bit slow. Overall a real good value for money.

Thanks. By the way i looked at your flickr gallery. You have some excellent shots on there. You are lucky to be living in a country where there is plenty of light most of the time :)
