have any of you had to send this lens out for calibration? Has anyone of you owned the Canon 100-400mm and decided to stay with this sigm instead? why?

thanks

I had a 100-400 when I got the sigmos. After a couple of weeks, I sold the 100-400. There was nothing wrong with the Canon, but I liked the extra reach of the Sigma and I felt they were similar in resolution.

Here are a couple of close-focus shots from yesterday on a canon 50D, ISO 100, Metz flash and monopod.

Cicada 1/160 @ f6.3. Dragonfly 1/250 @ f11

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,

Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

A request from milalic to post Birds in Flight taken with the 150-500. These were shot with Canon 1DM3 in the Keys and I really didn't have the technique down. ISO 640, so f11 and 1/1000 or more. Zoom was at 313mm.

One of the birds appeared to have a fishing line attached.

Your thought was mine at first, but the string went on and on and never fell to the water. I had caught one squirting and it was just a short burst. I have more than one shot in this series and this bird never lost the string--so, my assumption is that it wasn't a natural substance.

Gives me a chance to add the other two images I resized, however. As you can see in the second image, which I made darker so the string stands out a bit, there is a loop and a knot, an unfortunate example of how our trash hurts other living creatures.

The other shot in this reply is the last I will upload from this series, just an example of a bird taking off.

Ah, that's too bad. Looked just like a running "squirt". Looks like it's caught on his leg in that second shot.

Is it worse when the number of vultures grows? We were in the golf cart at the inlaws lake looking for deer. Saw some, got some shots, missed the shots of a buck. Saw two vultures and decided to follow them. Fired off some shots, and then two more showed up. We drove to another area, and three more showed up. So, does the fact that they were gaining numbers mean something??

I knew my photography stunk, but I didn't think it smelled like dead animal.

Maybe it's my cologne. Think it's time for a new brand?? "Ode de Skunke" might not be cutting it anymore.
