Some times a fish will jump twice. After the first jump I aim and wait. So far I have two successful shots and one accidental with a kingfisher flying. This one's the best to date.

I've shot quite a bit of youth football and soccer with it.

This might be a silly request, but can anyone post some examples at 150 mm? I know that most buy this lens for the long end, but I tend to use my zooms throughout their ranges and I plan on purchasing the 150-500 early next year. I'm sure there are probably some 150 mm examples in this thread, but since it is so big, I am hoping someone can help.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

Hah! The worlds largest bobcat!

Thanks for these. Just curious, how often do you (or anyone else) use this lens at the short end?

Tim

I'd have to check data, but I'd say I use the whole focal range about the same. I'm at 500mm a lot because I like head shots, but I don't think I use it that much more than the low end.

Looks like the tiger was given' ya the business

Every once in a while I get the lucky tongue-out or yawning shot. I go to the zoo so much that I'm surprised I don't catch shots like that more often.

Hah! The worlds largest bobcat!

There were two cubs. They had them inside in their cage, which was next to the cage that the male (the father) was in. the male grabbed them both through the cage. One was hurt pretty bad, and passed away. This one lost its tail because the mother grabbed it to pull the cub from the male.

A sad event, but the only thought that goes through my head is why the zoo would even take the chance for something like this to happen. They should know that, in captivity or in the wild, the male will attack the young, even its own young, and they shouldn't have them in connected cages. To me that's just plain dumb.

Yeah, I want to jump in on that question as well. I see..even the shots just above...people using for field sports in decent light. I would think, this might be a good use. People use the 100-400 for day football and soccer from what I've seen, so I think the 'short' end of this lens would come in handy as the players run over the field. Love to see some sports shots added?

I went digging into my posted examples and the lowest I came up with was an Iguana shot at 267mm. The problem in finding examples is that I use it mostly for critters and they start moving if you get too close. I found a couple of flower shots at closer ranges: The small blue flowers are at 150mm and the lotus at 174mm on a canon 1DM3
