The flowers are very nice. Just a tad dark, so, maybe bump the exposure 1/3 of a stop.

The first bridge scene is nice...just wish the whole bridge could have been included, with more of the mist/smoke?

The last one is nice...except maybe crop/clone the bridge out, as it's not an important piece of the image. The smooth water is nice, and not blown, so, that's a plus.

I like them. Keep it up.

Thats really a tough question to answer since its not really that simple. If all you want to do is take photos of your prego baby sister, consider a fairly reasonable flash, get you a off shoe cord, etc. If you want to get into portrait studio work, thats an entire different ball game. One which can still be done with flashes and umbrellas, which are extremely portable, or strobes.

For sure, start here.

#1.. there just seems to be a lot going on. The bridge, water, trees, fog, and the rocks. But to my eye, the rocks seem to dominate the shot, which is not all that aesthetically pleasing to me. Sorry. Maybe if you moved a few steps over and recomposed the rocks out, the fog, bridge, and water would all work nicely together.

#3.. agree.. that bit-o-bridge is distracting. I like the blurred water. I assume a slower shutter speed, but everything else looks pretty sharp (on my laptop screen). Did you use a tripod? I'm looking at the rocks under the water and can't tell if you used a polarizing filter. Did you? I can't get any EXIF data on your pics. What shutter speed?

#2.. can't say anything. I haven't even started to think about macros or doing these kind of flower shots. Looks nice to me. DOF looks good.

I'm not sure. What's your workflow? I haven't gotten into Photoshop yet, so I just open my RAW or JPGs using DPP. Do my WB and exposure adjustments, the do Batch Process to downsize and save as JPG.. and all my EXIF is embedded. I think if you then reopen it in something else, and then re-save it, you lose the EXIF. It's happened to me once or twice before, but I'm not sure why.

I don't know about the polarizer. It cuts the reflections on the water, and allows you to really see those rocks under the flowing stream. But I wonder if the reflection adds something to the flowing water? What do you all think? I should probably pick up a few filters and experiment with them.

I have the only editor that I want right now.lol.and thats the iPhotos on the Mac..doesn;t do nearly anything that others do..and I get confused enough with the daily grind to have CS3....trying to learn to take a photo that won't need alot of anything...I am also a fan of a dark BG.
