The flat lighting prevented much contrast, but it's still interesting to see the shots. I haven't seen surfing pics from the Great Lakes either, so these images were neat to see. ... Full body suit with gloves = COOOOLD !!!;)

I like them both but you need to boost your ISO higher than 100 in order to get a fast shutter speed (at least 1/200). Also, since you have image editing on, I figured I'd have a take at the first one (crop, rotate, levels, curves, contrast):

Is 1/200+ a normal setting for surf shots? I've never really attempted it before (its pretty rare to see guys out there). Also, thanks for the PP. I'd done a quick one and the crooked horizon had bothered me, but I was too lazy to fix it. :)

All I ever do is wakeboard, and the lakes we do that on are much warmer. I'd love to learn to surf here but its pretty inconsistent as far as when you can actually do it.

Weather was about 43-45ish outside and I'd guess the lake was about the same. Wind was pretty strong as well. I was underdressed in jeans and a rain jacket, and only stayed out about 45min that morning.

Well, 1/200 really goes a long way towards freezing action (in the water and any surfers), plus it reduces the camera shake factor.

That would be sweet to surf in a lake! :) Shame the pics dont do the day justice, did you get any of the dude actually surfing any? Looks like it had a fair bit of punchy potential!

Normally surf shots are shot at above 1/1000. When going for some blur I might shoot at 50 or 100, so 200 is really a bit slow.

Anyone know anything anywhere anymore?

Great shots and wonderful subject matter. I also agree that you could have easily bumped the ISO up to get the brightness up a bit. nice work!
