See my sig for my current setup

I'm looking for something wider than 18mm.
Budget: <$450

I've found that the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 might be a good choice, any other suggestions?
Also, the Sigma 17-70 isn't something I would buy over the Tamron 17-50, see this poll I created on the two here.

Thank you!!

Keeping the wideness of the kit lens within 1mm:

Sigma 17-70
Sigma 18-50 2.8 Macro
Canon 18-55 IS Kit
Canon 17-85 IS

Less wideangle capabilities:

Sigma 24-60 2.8
Sigma 24-70
Canon 28-135 IS

Ones in bold are the cheapest in that category.

Or keep your kit lens and get the Sigma 10-20 UWA.... ;)

Sigma 10-20?

24mm on a crop body is pretty restrictive. Has no real wide angle part to it.

Could go for a Sigma 24-60 and also a Sigma 10-20 if you can push you budget. Would make a nice everyday set of lenses.

The Sigma 10-20 looks a bit soft, though I have thought about that one :)

I'll look into the Sigma 18-50 2.8 Macro

I've seen great success with sigma 17-70. I just purchased one yesterday. :) This will become my walk around lens/kit lens replacement.

I also have the Sigma 10-20 and absolutely love it.

Kind Regards,
Ryan

Other alternative would be the Tokina 12-24mm perhaps?

You sure it's only $50 more? I'll look around for that thanks, would be great if it was $50 more though...Thought it was priced $900, you're just trying to raise my hope :p.

The Tamron lens you mentioned is $420.00 at B&H, the 17-40 Cannon is $650.00. it is a great lens and works well with all three types of cameras 1.6, 1.3 & FF. The Tamrom is limited to a crop camera.

Get an f/2.8 lens, skip the 17-40.

Sigma's 18-50 Macro and Tamron's 17-50 are the best choices.

Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is a great lens for the price. Depends a bit on what you want to use it for.

If you look at FM or our forum.. even Craigslist. You'll find this lens for $500-550. I only said $500 because I negotiated that price for a UU date coded sharp copy of the lens with all the original packaging. I opted to go for the 24-70L and suffer with no food for a month :)

Check around I think you'll be happy you bought the 17-40, you know you will eventually (or another nice Canon lens).

Just make sure you check the lens out first or buy from someone reputable off the forums.
