I've been hemming and hawing over getting the G9 as a P&S, since my old, beat up SD630 still does what I need a P&S to do (capture images and take movies). I'm not under any pretences that the P&S is going to rival the 40D in IQ, so why spend the $500+ on a backup camera, when the 630 works just fine, right?

Well, yesterday, I walked into a Best Buy, with 12% coupon in hand, looking for something I needed (not the G9), and walked out with something I didn't need (the G9).

Here're the details: $499 price, less Circuit City price match, which comes out to $449. Less $10 for some reason I couldn't figure out. Receipt shows $439. Less 12% for a total of $386.32 (before tax).

I had a $20 Visa gift card, so out of pocket was $366.32 :p

Sounds like a great price, where did you find the 12% off coupon?

My last impulse buy was $1,400 for a 40D. I wish I could limit myself to impulses of less than $400

Do you think this is YMMV? I thought you can't combine price match and a coupon. Have fun with your new G9! Looking to buy it again myself. Had one but sold it.

I agree...it's definitely a YMMV. I still don't know where that -$10 came from.

I think BB gives you the price match, and an extra X% or something...of the price difference? That's prolly where the -10 came from. Maybe some others do too?

Oh, and congrats.

Ah...thanks. It should be going through the paces this weekend. From playing around with the sample camera and seeing the pics here, it's an impressive P&S!

That was my last impusle buy too.

My 40D kit was $1200 because it was open boxed, they still warranty it. Everything was mint when I got it with 300 acutations. So I picked it up on the spot.

My second impulse buy was the 24-70L, the 30mm Sigma was such a good deal I had to get that too.

Ramen noodles for the next year I would say...

I made that same deal, used a 12% coupon and used a bunch of Best-Buy "reward points". I have not had buyers remorse at all on this purchase. Could not get it cheaper anywhere. Also found that Adorama has a really, really good rebate on Sandisk Extreme III SD cards, so I picked up a great big one of those (8 GB). Still quivering.

I think that you will be very happy with your "impulse buy"!! I'm still learning, not only about digital photography, but also learning how to use my G9. I was disappointed at first by how the picutures look when reviewed in the camera but I was thrilled to see how they looked when I saw them on my computer.

Well I just tried to get this same deal. Did you have a managers approval? They would not let me have the pricematch (+10dollars off) and the 12% coupon. I spoke with a manager and told him an aquaintance of mine receieved both discounts. He said it was double dipping and they would not do it.
ARRRRRGH almost had it.

Yep, they would not let me either. Kept saying that the coupon stated it was off the original price. Oh well, I still ended up getting it (it was a decent price, local, and I had some reward zone certificates to use).

I also purchased their ADH (?) warranty, even though I worked their in the past as an in-store tech and know the horrors of their camera repair shop, I figured it was the safe thing to do since I plan on carrying the G9 with me while snowboarding.

As for accessories, I told them I could find much better deals online. :)
