I've been looking at ball heads recently and found on buy.com the Vanguard ball head sbh 200 for $42. Are Vanguards good and is this the right one if I want to be able to track birds IF?

I was just bored and wanted to see if people could not flip a sh1t when someone doesn't know something, but teaching others about photography isn't what people like to do anyways, so don't worry about it. To anyone else out there, what would be a good ballhead to put on then monopod in my gear list that doesn't break the bank?

I'd be willing to bet - sight unseen - that if that head is new at $42 it is basically junk. Obsessive Gear List

My apologies. It seemed liked he was being somewhat arrogant and expecting me to know a lot more than I did. It makes me frustrated when I read threads where people who may not know a whole lot, like myself, get bashed by some because of their inexperience and ignorance. Richard

RPCrowe Cream of the Crop More info | First off, I don't like ball heads for following action - either on a tripod or on a monopod. Ball heads are exceptional for still shots but, IMO, don't do all that well for following action. At least, I don't do that well with them. See my images at http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com/
