I was just wondering. The 100-400 L IS USM is a favourite of mine and I have one for maybe 5 years now.

Looking at the evolution of lenses; is there a new one coming or one which has been upgraded or spiced up with the new technologies?

Anybody an idea?

I don't know if Canon is contemplating how to build a better dust-buster.

Ahh, the weekly "Where's the new 1-4 thread?" File this one with the "Where's the 5D Mark II?" thread... ;)

Sadly, any news on this is a well kept secret. If Canon is even considering it.

I dont know about that. I dont find this lens as mind blowing as I thought it was gonna be. I dont think it is sharper then my Bigma I sold for it. The IS is nice but those other 2 sigmas might be a better vaule

if saving money is your main concern there are always other options.

but as far as i know there isn't another 3 lb. 100-400mm lens on the market with IS that delivers the same IQ.

Nice lens.

If we are dreaming over a new lens, here is my dream replacement. I'd like a lens of this quality or better in a black body with a red stripe, smaller (if possible), lighter, but still with IS. The same apertures are ok... make it focus faster (although it's not exactly slow now)... hmmm, make it a little less expensive if possible? And send mine first.

If you must know...

What he said:D!!!

Looked around for a long time. Read EVERY thread here about the 100-400, mostly because it is a LOT of money. Rented different lens' and compared. Best bang for the buck? 100-400 L. No regrets.
Can not see how Canon can improve it w/o upping the price more than 60%.
Again, just my .02.

not everyone.

there's a whole group of guys on this forum who are angry that the 100-400L has not been unseated by a third party lens that sells for half as much.

ironic that there is a group that wants to see canon fail on a canon forum but they are here ... :D.

surrender does not always mean giving up.

sometimes it means joining the winning side.

welcome ;)!
