Been workin my backside off this week pulling 16-18 hour days trying to catch up before hitting the road for 10 days and then decided last second to go shoot a high school championship game at the local stadium, since I'm the team photog for the pro team that plays there and all....C&C welcome, could use some new ideas!

#1 - Kind of local (40 mins away) team's starting pitcher....

#2 - Not so local (1 hr, 20 mins)....but starting off the right way, a triple in the 2nd...he's not a bright kid, he's only going to Harvard - we all know that's just a party school!! Was told about an hour after he was heading there, or at least the person thought, so who knows if it's actually true.

#3 - If I was #23's coach I would make him run the next practice for a long, long, long time. He kept leading off farther and farther even though the pick off attempt kept coming and coming. The 4th or 5th straight pick off attempt finally got him, he was actually picked off 3 times but the first baseman dropped two.

#4 - The shot you wish was focused on the runner or had less DOF so it had both crystal clear....only real big action play all game. Team in grey's coach argued the call saying he missed the plate on the hook slide, after further review a few frames down the line...it was...inconclusive. Got a pic of his hand past the plate where you can assume he touched it, but the frame before it looks like he's behind it so he may of been right...In the dugout he insisted he touched it.

#5 - WE ARE SO GONNA WIN THIS!!! I believe this run made it 9-0 in the bottom of the 6th....this is the same kid as in the pic above, little easier run this time. The game ended 10-0 black, always bet on black.

#8 - Sure, tackle the catcher...yippy, yay, woo hoo!

...was an assistant coach at this time last year winning a title though really spent little time with the team, it was a little strange to watch others do it since we were eliminated on Monday. I'd rather be in the pile than taking pics of it any day!

Great shots Mike.

I would make #23 run poles all practice long for not sliding back into first.

Great shots Mike...I'm new to the boards but I see your a fellow New Yorker (and very close to me). I will be at Dwyer today to get some pics of Class AA. I am a sports photography newbie hoping to come up with some decent shots from the stands. Any good spots at Dwyer I should know about? I was wondering what you do with H.S. pics that you take....or is it just practice?

Thanks, I almost left before getting the emotion shots! That woulda been stupid of me, did make the mistake of not having my short lens with me on a 2nd body though. Oh well.

I actually believe he did slide on every attempt but this one. He tried the ol' stick your leg in there, and it worked even though he looks to be out by a mile. First baseman slapped the tag and the ball popped out. He was banged out on the last attempt, you think you learn after so many but nope - oh well, they still raised the trophy.

well done Mike, haven't seen much of your stuff lately so this was great to see.

I've been hiding and busy, posted a couple threads here and there, probably 4 or so over the last month or two? Not even sure...I seem to only post when I'm sick of doing my other work and this is my break, ha.

Eastlake next week, staying the night down there probably.

I'll be there tonight for both games I think, at least the first and the start of the 2nd. At Dwyer the sun goes down over the left field fair pole (we all know thats its real name) so the best option is usually on the 3rd base side by the dugout. There's seats right to the side of where I usually shoot from at the games there. Around 7:30ish you lose a lot of light at this point of the year, though maybe another 10-20 mins may be added.

Shots #5-8 are from the stands as I wanted to get the pitcher/catcher like that, whole pitcher coming in, etc. Really depends what you want (pithcers/hitters) but there's plenty of places from the stands if you get there early for good seats as the other teams leave today.

If you see a big ol' lineman type guy that looks like he should cut back on the chicken wings and beer that'd be me.

As for what I do with them, well I've been the team photog at Dwyer for 9 years now and also shoot for MaxPreps as many members do.

Entire Gallery from last night...

Honeoye Falls, New York? If so that is a blast from the past, I lived there until I was in forth grade, that was back in "77 when we moved away. Great pictures well done.

I'm not sure how it all works, I know there's a school named Honeoye and then Honeoye-Falls Lima. How far apart they are, how close they are, if they're even in the same area I'm not sure.

Shot two championship games today and got plenty more jubilation shots...:)
