Now full, sorry y'all. Maybe next time ...

POTN Photography Day at the Cat Survival Trust, Hertfordshire

I am looking at organising one, perhaps more, specialist photography days at the Cats Survival Trust headquarters at Welwyn, Hertfordshire. If you'd like to spend the day with your fellow (and lady) POTN members photographing a unique selection of less commonly encountered Cats, large and small, then register your interest below ASAP.

Cost: £26 per head including Paypal booking fee, membership of the Trust, tea/coffee and lunch :D
Payment: Once dates confirmed and you know you can make it then, assuming you're on the first list, please Paypal me upon request. All payment in advance to avoid last minute drop outs. Refund only if a replacement found as it is not fair on the trust to lose the income - we may have a waiting list if there is enough interest.
Age: Minimum age of 17
Risks: Although no one has ever been hurt, people do this at their own risk
Location: The Centre, Codicote Road, Welwyn, Herts. AL6 9TU
Date/s: Now confirmed for Sunday 20th July
Numbers: Restricted to probably 6-8 per visit to enable ease of access to the Cats and a more friendly 'non-crowded' atmostphere.
Transport: You will need to arrange that yourself, or perhaps seek a car share.
Schedule: See below

We will photograph the Cats from inside the outer enclosures, a priveledge not normally enjoyed by visitors. Therefore, the photography will often be reasonably close up and so specialist long lenses will not be required. A 70-200, or even shorter, will be excellent for capturing many fine shots.

At the time of our visit the collection is likely to include a selection from the following: Bobcat, Caracal, Eurasian Lynx, Fishing Cat, Geoffroy's Cat, Puma, Jaguar, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cats, Ocelot, Scottish wildcat, Serval and Snow Leopard. So if you thought the Cat world stopped at Lion, Tiger and Moggy then think again ;-)a

Normally the Trust isn't open to members of the general public and so the fee includes annual membership of the charity. Income will go to the Trust to help maintain their captive breeding programme and general upkeep of the animals in their care. I make nothing from this myself.

Schedule

The broad run down of the day will be as follows.

9.50-10.15
Tea and Coffee, introductions, complete membership forms (the price for the day includes annual membership of the Trust) and receive safety instructions.

10.15-13.00
In the cathouse. The cathouse has 10 enclosures, 5 on each side. This puts us inside the outer safety wire so we can get better shots of the cats.

13.00-1400
Lunch (included in price)

14.00-16.00
We will take photos of the cats in the cages outside the cat house. The outer cages only have one lot of wire.

The 100-400 will be perfect. But only if things are more than 1.8m away of course!!

I'll go! Sounds great, should be a pretty good chance that it'll fall on one of my 4 days off.

Some shots from the Trust ... taken by Mark (a Minolta/Sony user!) who should be with us on the day:
