UPDATE: I received the replacement inner ring for Elinchrom and it all sets up now. They also sent me another carry bag and must have expedited it because I received it today - 3 days later. Too bad they dont ship everything that way.

The quality of the box is pretty good. The baffle material is so so but for the money it was not a bad deal. After I use it a bit I will make a decision on whether its worth buying another box from them.

I had a layer of Rosco Full White Diffusion sown to the internal baffles of my two boxes - cost very little and improved the output dramatically.

Do you know if amvona's softboxes will work with AB800?

Well FWIW, I have a DPN-36 Amvona strip box with the standard Amvona speedring and it works with my AB strobes. It's not a perfect fit: the Amvona speedring is much wider/thicker than the AB speedrings but as long as you don't knock it around too much, the tension on the spring mounted AB holders will hold it to the face of the strobe. But the 56" Amvona is likely to be heavier than the 36" model, so your mileage may vary.

AB does sell it's own speedrings which I have successfully used on other another non-AB softbox (not an Amvona though so can't say if the AB speedrings work on Amvona SB's).

Hmmm, I was going to post that I think these are a bargain, but then realized that I can get an Elinchrom strip box (slightly shorter, but wider) shipped to me for $320 instead of around $200, and you know what? I'd rather go with the Elinchrom Rotalux!

P.S. The Elin large (indirect) strip box is a lot more $$$, but the light out of those indirect Light Banks is in a different league...

Bear in mind that the konova comes with a grid whereas the rotalux doesn't and won't even accommodate a third-party one. If you buy the latter you'll be pretty much resigned to not being able to control the spread of its output, and control is the whole reason you use strip boxes in the first place.

Good point! I've had a bit of a think about it and might take a gamble on their largest stripbox. It seems reasonable, and I won't have to fuss with Velcro and a DIY grid... And I think I will try your idea of the Rosco Full White Diffusion sewn into the baffles, too! :)

FYI my favourite diffuser for softbox baffles has now changed to LEE Quiet Frost (429). It's thick and it cuts a lot of light but it produces amazingly soft light and you can just roll it up so it won't wrinkle. It's probably too thick to be suitable for adding to existing baffles - Full White Diffusion or Grid Cloth would still be your best bet.

I'd rather go with something like a large Photoflex halfdome rather than an ebay box. Build quality and quality of light are excellent. Light is pretty darn even for a strip bank.

I love the construction of the Norman strip box but as far as I can tell the largest one if only 36" long. Also, I haven't tried the Chimera strips but they are supposed to be quite good as well.

Chimeras are the best I have used but they are not cheap. I might opt for a photoflex next time.
I probably wouldnt do another Konova. its a little funky and by the time you fix or replace the diffusion materials its hardly worthwhile imo.

Ooooh, they make them in silver or WHITE interior! No wonder the light is nice... I might have to look into this! Ummm, you have other Photoflex softboxes, haven't you, Robert? How do you attach them to your Elinchroms?? (I've found this? http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_Ring_Octo_Connector.html (external link))
