Hey gang!
I am packing my bags up for a wedding tomorrow. It is going to be a long shoot. I am going to be shooting for about 12 hours. From prep to late night party. I think I have to pick up more CF cards on my way to the gig. I have 38gigs of memory cards and did not want to do any downloading to my laptop until I get home---so I think I might have to drop by and pick up more memory.
I shot a beach wedding last weekend and used 24 gigs of memory. It was a much shorter wedding --- I think I need to get more memory.
My question is what is the most you have used in a wedding?

If you shoot RAW + JPEG, 38 GB should be fine. I know I shoot around 16 at the most with 2 cameras.

I shoot with a 5D and the most I've used while shooting RAW (w/o JPG) has been 21GB at any wedding. I only have 2 4GB cards and 1 2GB card. I'm in the "investment stages" and know I need more, but always carry my laptop to dump them on (which I'd rather not do).

If you use that much memory, it may be wise to have a laptop around. Good grief! I'd be so confused with so many cards. :)

With my 30D shooting RAW and small JPG, I'm normally at about 12 gigs. I've got I have done almost 20 before, but that is very rare.

I am definitely a over shooter--- I shoot with a 5D and Mark III ------ I shoot RAW & Jpeg.....I think I will probably shoot only RAW tomorrow though.
On a typical wedding I shoot between 24 and 32 gigs. There is no way with what I have going tomorrow that I will be able to keep it within what I have.
I am going to have to pace myself and shoot only RAW and see if I can keep it to 4K images.

Am I not taking enough pictures?? I don't shoot in raw (I probably should in some scenarios) but I only go through about 3gb at the largest and finest resolution! But I always bring my laptop and back everything up, and if I need to, I reformat and start over on another card. I still average about 600 shots per wedding. Any more and I think they would be overwhelmed.

Good grief! The most I have ever shot for a wedding is 12ish gigs (plus the second shooter and assistant). How do you even shoot that much w/o motor driving a the majority of the time you are shooting?!? But what is the reason behind shooting jpeg and raw? A jpeg is only a dumbed down version of raw...and with how easy raw is to convert to jpeg...

I used to shoot RAW+large jpeg, then I find out that during my process, I never use the jpeg's and only use raw, so I stopped shooting jpeg for events. The only time I shoot jpeg is for quick pictures or action shots. I only have 12GB of CF cards and I've had times of where I had to chimp really fast to delete bad pictures in order to save space. I really need to get more space or get a CF+hard drive photo safe.

Wouldn't it be better for 5D owners (maybe other bodies) to shoot RAW only vs RAW+JPEG? What about RAW+Small JPEG?

Do you guys plan to display them for people at the wedding or do you get on with it? I wouldn't see the point in a wedding situation. If someone would care to enlighten me to this, would be grateful. Im always here to learn. :)

4,000 frames in a single wedding? No thanks! That's too much to wade through afterwards! I'll top out around 1200...that's more than enough!

My nephew and his new wife were given around 1000 images to wade through for their wedding day, far too many. Lord knows how many the guy actually took, but he (or his camera) sounded like the paparazi shooting pics of Britney Spears - Jeez, how did we ever manage with 120 medium format roll film all those years ago? :-)
