well, I finally bought a pair of AB800's and I have to say, wow. Power output and consistency in exposure is so much better than my combination of sigma and canon flashes.

Manual says color temp is 5600 Kelvin. I set the wb on camera to 5600 Kelvin. when I import in lightroom, it says 5350 with a hue of +2 as the default. is the 5350 just 5327 in Celsius which translates to 5600 K?

Kelvin is a unit of temperature in absolute terms. Kelvin = Celsius - 273.

I have also noticed that when I set the color temp in-camera to a certain K value, it comes up in lightroom slightly different. I really don't know why.

But I wouldn't sweat it. The beauty of shooting RAW is you can set to whatever you want. If you want to be persnickety about it, shoot a good reference target like a WhiBal card or Ed Pierce target.

And if you are persnickety about it, you'll eventually notice that the color temp of the Alienbees does change slightly at different power settings. The modifiers you use can affect it slightly, too.

This is what I got with my B1600s and my 20D set at 5600K, converted in Lightroom without adjustment. Looks good to me!

Thanks Curtis. I am aware of kelvin conversion. that why I figured 5327 celcius is 5600 kelvin, and thought maybe lightroom shows temps in celsius.. I may shoot a whibal, since I own one.

When shooting in the studio with my AB's the last time, the eyedropper tool (in RAW conversion) on my gray card gave me a 5850°K with a -2 tint for the settings. As Dave said above, if color is critical either do a custom white balance or shoot in RAW with a reference card in a test shot.
