I am thoroughly confused by this image. That said...I really like it.

How odd  My brain is confused. Is it reflected in the phone or is this the reflection?

It's the reflection of the overhead light on the surface of the (turned off) phone.

It was raining and dark outside, I had nothing else to do :)

That is really creative, I like it! I will have to try that one myself.

This looks stellar.

Was there any PS work done to it?

This looks amazing! Ever seen those optical illusion toys where you put something inside a ufo looking object and a virtual image of the object magically hovers above? Well that's what that looks like!

I think what throws people off is that fact that the small Dof has made the outer rim of the mirrored surface look smaller than the reflected image which I guess doesn't look quite right..

I love it!

So my question is, why does the photo look fake? To my knowledge, you cannot have a 3d effect using a reflection no matter what angle you are at. I clearly see the iPhone line going through the "reflection" at the top of the picture. This shows that the reflection was applied to the phone, not taking using the phone as a mirror.

Even my wife, who is a novice at best, can see the line and pointed it out to me as she walked up before I even had a chance to ask her about it.

Good try though...

If you can prove me wrong, I will apologize and keep going...but prove me wrong first.

I can assure you, the phone was used to display the reflection. The line you see is part of the chrome bezel, and due to the shallow depth of field it looks like the reflection is extended off the reflective surface. The "3D look" was achieved through enhancing the contrast.

Here's the best I can do right now to to illustrate this. When I get back home tomorrow maybe I'll post up the "scene of the crime" of the original  Notice how "2 hours ago, 21:17" is reflected in the bezel, which appears to be the "edge" in the first photo you referred to.

For some reason that is still going through my head as it can't be, but as you pointed out and as I said earlier...I am wrong and do apologize

My critiquing will stop for a while as I take a step back to reflect on this...

I think its a brilliant capture and the fact it makes people stop and question it, just shows the impact it has.
