Hiked down to a new spot on the river that I found last week when I didn't have my tripod and ND filter with me so today, I ventured back to there to try an 8 second exposure with the missing gear. I used my trusty 17-40L for this one @ 17mm.

C&C welcomed and appreciated.

Cheers! :)

Very nice shot. Personally I think it could do with a touch of saturation on the colours but apart from that its a great shot.

Thanks also for your advice and kind reply!

I actually did try pushing the saturation envelope but it got to the point where the rocks were starting to take on an ungodly hue and I wanted to keep things as real as possible. It's a temptation I guess we all fall victim to from time to time, wanting to make the colors really pop and sometimes, a calmer tone does the trick.

I may revisit this spot in the fall and try to capture some nice reds, oranges and yellows when the leaves change color.

Cheers!

Like the water a lot. I probally would have shot it with a bit longer lens and/ or moved around a bit to eliminate the upper portion of the trees and the sky.

The top 1/3 of the shot doesn't add anything IMO.

I actually have a shot from today's visit that roughly takes in the suggestions you made.

This one being taken from in front of the tree with the drooping branches and with a tighter crop of the trees in the background of the shot.

How does this one grab you?

Cheers! :)

I like the second one more, but they are both fantastic shots :)

Very nice and congrats on not pushing the saturation too far. :)

I do prefer the first one. Definitely a relaxing by the stream and let the world float away shot.

Great shots, I like both of them, but the first one looks better through my eyes.

I was shooting some waterfalls two weeks ago with my 17-40, and was looking into getting an ND filter. Would you mind telling me what yours is specifically... I see it is a B+W in your sig, but how many stops? Also, what time of day was this shot, and what was the ISO? I do not know how to access the picture's data, or I would have just looked myself!!

Thanks for the great shots!

Mike

Firstly, thanks for checking out the shots and your kind review. ;)

The ND filter I use is a 6 stop B+W. I also used the lens hood to keep as much stray light out as possible which also included covering the viewfinder during the exposure. The B+W's have a good characteristic of keeping the light reduction even across the visible spectrum and the brass ring construction ensures that they'll unscrew from the lens without fuss...a wise investment in quality, the way I see it.

The shot was taken around 1PM and it was a fairly overcast day which also assisted in allowing the longer exposure time. I set the f/stop @ f/22 and used ISO 100...all in an effort to slow the light down as much as possible.

Thanks also to kenyc and twodeko for their reviews and kind words...I do appreciate the feedback.

Cheers!

I like the second one, but I think it's a tad on the dark side....I'm no photoshop master, but I spent 5 minutes playing around with it to brighten it up some...you could probably do more if you have the RAW.

I like the lighting/exposure in #1 and the layout/composure of #2.

I agree, this shot was too dark and your touch up helped it out. I admit, I didn't spend too much time on this shot in post processing as it wasn't my favorite from the day's shoot...I actually took close to 10 different shots of this spot along the river, hoping one or two might come out decently.

Thanks for participating here. I do appreciate it!

Thanks for your feedback! Probably one day I'm gonna capture that spot properly when there's no wind, just the right light and just the perfect color in the foliage to capture...then I can die in peace! :D Until then, the battle continues!

Cheers!
