I do a lot of travel photography so I am always on the move. I have heard some amazing things about the Sanyo Eneloops and have decided to switch to them after years of the big name rechargeable. I was curious to know if anyone can recommend a great travel charger for these batteries. The main use for the batteries will be to power my 430ex Canon flash. I needs to charge 4 at a time, should be small (ish) and light. Of course that is a utopian dream. Any ideas?

I have that charger that came with a kit of eneloop batteries I bought on sale. I'd agree it seems like a good travel charger for them but I don't think it's a particularly fast charger if that's something you want.

It doesn't have to be super fast, I don't believe anything good can come from a charger that charges batteries in 15 mins. But within reason, one to two hours would be nice. I usually travel super light, so the most I would have is two sets, one ready back in my bag and one in my flash with me in the field.

Anyone have good experience with the maha powerex charger?

The Maha MH-C204W is a good unit for travel. You should have a look at the Thomas Distributing website for good deals; here's a link to the page for MH-C204W chargers:

(http://thomasdistributing.com …ersion-c-147_148_151.html (external link)). Take a look around on their website as there is a lot of useful information about batteries and chargers.

Many people on this forum deal with Thomas Distributing; they seem to have a great reputation. I have placed 3 or 4 orders with them and have been very pleased.

I just read some reviews on amazon that complained about the fact that the charger only charges in pairs and not to each individual battery. I think that is a big problem. Wouldn't it be nice to find a simple, light, small, cheap charger that worked all over the world and made sure each individual battery was at full capacity...too much to ask? ;)

Don't want much do we?

Have a look at the Maha MH-C9000, here's a link:

I saw this charger, but it seemed pretty big in comparison to say the BC-900. I have read reviews on both and it seems that you can't go wrong with either. As a photographer who likes to travel as light as possible, as well as conserve space, the bc-900 might be more up my alley. I will have to give both of them a look over though. Thanks

I have the BC-900 and so far it's been a pretty good charger. I certainly cannot complain about the pricing.

I own this charger; it is top of the line in terms of functionality but not something I'd recommend as a 'travel' charger.

Ideally you'd have something small, quick, and compact and then have the MH-C9000 for getting the most out of your batteries charge after charge and for reconditioning rechargeables that won't accept a charge with other chargers.

Agreed!

The only thing that might be better for travel is a charger which also can take 12v dc from an auto!

The best ones to travel WW with are those with internal 100-240V converters, such as the C204W....unfortunately they don't work on 12V

If 12V is important, the C201FS http://thomasdistributing.com …e9b2uk2j5klb4mad9b3bteb96 (external link) has a relatively small WW "brick" and comes with a 12V car adapter. I do not remember if it charges each cell individually....but for travel I wouldn't sweat it. Just charge the cells as matched sets.....and if they die a little quicker, replace them....they are not that expensive any more.

Makes ya wonder why they can make BP511 chargers that take 100-240V AC and 12V DC, but not AA chargers!

Hmmm.. I thought that was a problem at first.. But if its for the 430EX, you'll be charging 4 at a time.. When would you ever need to charge 1 or 3 cells?
