strapping a tripod to a slingshot 200? how do you do it.

I've had a Slingshot 200 AW for the better part of two years, and looking at the design of it I have never considered it to be the sort of thing one would attach a tripod to. That said, I do sometimes stuff my Gorillapod into the little attachment loop. As for my full tripod....?

Just as an experiment I did attach it. I put the tripod carry strap through the accessory loop on the bag and ball-bungeed the ball head to the carry loop at the top. To be honest I think it looks more than a little ridiculous like this. Comfort wise it is actually OK, just bumping into my bum a bit as I walk. However, at the moment my pack is empty. I can tell you that if it was full of kit it would weigh around 7Kg - 15 lbs and I would not want the added weight of a tripod dragging on that single shoulder strap. I'm also not too sure how well the bag would stand up to being yanked about by the tripod hanging off it for a long hike. Personally I'd forget the idea.

Now my Think Tank, on the other hand, is a whole different kettle of fish, specifically designed to carry a tripod, with a stiffer construction, straight vertical sides and a special tripod pouch to place the feet of the tripod into. I think a tripod on its own shoulder strap is superior to making a pack even heavier, and perhaps off balanced!

I wouldn't even think about attaching the tripod to my 300AW. It completely negates the whole purpose of the slingshot bag because you can't pull the thing around comfortably to access the bag. My tripod has a shoulder strap and I use it.

My slingshot 200 IS my tripod! Swing it around, perfect level to rest the elbow on!
