Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I've checked out lots of the photos here and they are fantastic. I just got a Canon G6 a couple of weeks ago and I'm still learning. I've been taking lots of pictures indoors. Haven't really had a chance to take some outdoors. I've found the Tv mode to be the most helpful for me. My question is, what's the best shutter speed to use indoor, example christmas party. I've had it at 1/125 with the flash on and seems pretty good. Is this a good speed to use indoor?

Canon 40D w/ kit lens 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6. No Flash, No lights, No other lenses. Just starting out.

Hi and welcome the the forum - nice to see new faces here :)

The shutter speed 1/60-1/125 is quite ok for indoor flash use. With slower speeds you get more ambient light in which makes shots more 'natural' but there is a limit where the risk is blurry shots. So, if the situation is calm and people do not move much you could try slower speeds, too, for different looking shots.

Welcome to the forum. As for the flash shutter speed question, I can't add anymore to what Pekka ha already said.
