If I get a call with a number I don't recognize I just don't answer - I figure if it's someone I know they will leave a message. Drives my wife crazy - she can't stand having a phone ring and not pick it up...

That should make it less frustrating for her. My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

Aug 18, 2012 14:59 | #21 Nicksan, time to move. At a minimum make sure you move gets you to a new state, ideally it will be one that does not border the state you are currently in. Hawaii is nice, I'd recommend it. As soon as you get settled in your new location, start exploring some countries that might work should this happen again. A friend of mine here is trying get me to move to Ecuador, he says it's paradise.

Aug 19, 2012 08:05 | #22 back in high school, in the 70's, the phone rings, I answer it. A girl asks for Mary, I say sorry wrong number. there is a pause and the girl asks is this Steve? I say huh...she says, is this Steve....I say yes, she says I thought so....and hangs up. To this day I would kill to find out who that was. Never use a paragraph when a sentence will do.

Same thing happened to me yesterday on my mobile phone - got all kinds of possibilities going round in my head. Did anyone have fraud happen to them afterwards? Thanks

The number listed was "112" on my call display. Joel

Call centres, (often outside the country to get round UK legislation) buy phone/address lists from various sources and call, firstly establishing that the number is live and secondly that the person on their list is still at that address. They then sell this information to companies who will use it to call and sell you things - for example energy, insurance, timeshare, accident claims services, etc.

Very weird they said" Hi can I speak to so and so.." and I answered "yes this is she"... and they hung up. I am still bothered, I tried to call back by *69 and it sais that extension isn't available. Weird stuff like that drives me frieggin crazy. UGH. It must be a bill collector or maybe a company trying to verify you work there. Not sure, my mind is just going a mile a minute.
