Alright, so I have not used this is a while. I am going to Nicaragua within the next few days, and I wanted to take this camera instead of my 30D...

So I went to turn the screen on, it is all black when you look at it to see what you are going to capture, but all the little icons and such still work. Even when you snap the photo it comes out black. But like I said, all of the icons and menu settings and such are still there. PLEASE tell me my camera is not broken...

Sounds like the shutter is stuck shut. I have seen this happen on another S2.
Call Canon and see what they say. I think it is about $150 fix but I am not sure. Good luck. I don't believe the S2 likes to sit around and not be used.

I would either get it fixed, or not. And buy a S3 IS or S5 IS, OR wait for the S6 to come out. I wouldn't waste around $150 dollars to get it fixed when the retail on it isn't much more..if any at all, since it was like a 2004 model camera.

OP, have you seen this?
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=238911

S2 isn't listed, but others have reported getting their cameras fixed for free that were not listed on the recall. It would be worth contacting Canon and finding out.

follow this link...my S2's been dead for a while now, and i haven't been thinking of sending it in(as i could most times get it to come back by using the burst mode)...been too busy with my first slr...but when i did pick it up a few months back it was gone...no fix in sight...followed the link provided by Bruno...and it took a while...maybe 15 or so attempts...but the shutter opened up and it's working again...just going to exercise it a bit, and hope it stays unstuck

thanks for the link bruno
