Just round to the closest if you don't use a full-stop setting.

The lowest possible ISO setting without going under a certain shutter speed depending on the lens I am using. I would rather have noise than camera shake.

If you expose properly, a 1600 ISO image will look better than a 100 ISO image that has been underexposed and brought back up in PP.

Camera- a device I own

Poser- A person who poses questions?

Maybe that's reaching a bit. I just find it easier to look at the stats than filtering through 20 contradictory responses.

Plus, they're fun.

Wouldnt you like a reasoning as to why people use certain ISO's? The people using 100 ISO are most likely working in bright conditions all of the time and the people using 1600 ISO are probably shooting sports or low light shots.
ISO isnt a set it and forget it type of adjustment. I change the ISO just as often as any other setting on my camera.

sorry if a little OT but does anyone know why nikons only go as low as ISO 200. i see that as being rather limiting for the photographer.

I tried to write my signature, but my pen ran out and I put a big scratch on my monitor

I've wondered about that myself.

Good answer, I agree fully.
I have no problem using any ISO setting I have available if need be.

First I set the f-stop & shutter speed I need. Then I adjust the ISO, so the ISO isn't as important as the other settings. Need an exposure crutch?

thanks all- I have been interested to see how many folks use 200, like me. Frank- that's a useful technique.

I usually leave my camera sitting at 400 as that is often a starting position. Once I'm setting up it is similar to Frank - I select the aperture and shutter speed I want and then consider the ISO.

If it's really bright and I'm not shooting action I might go down to 200, or even 100 on a tripod. Usually it's the opposite and I do shoot a lot from 800 to 1600.

I also use all 1/3 stops, If I take a shot at 400 and decide I need +1 1/3 then I shoot at ISO 1000.

100

I photograph 95% of the time on the beach (family portraits) and the groups are so large (tend to be 15+ people) so you have no choice but to start when its still fairly bright. Our afternoon shoots are around 6pm this time of year and we're usually still on the beach as the sun goes down.

Usually between 200 and 800, but of course I still use 100 when its bright outside and 1600 when it's dark or I need the fastest shutter speed for my 70-200. I shoot indoors and outdoors, with my 24-60 or 70-200 so it depends. I can see now why some people with there was an "ISO mode" especially with the longer lens.

These polls should have an option for "the right one" and "the wrong one" because when I am out shooting I usually pick one of those.
