Hi guys and gals. I am really hoping to get a job helping a company out with taking some pics for school events. They have a pretty standard way of doing things depending, of course, on the particular location and conditions that day.
I have been following a thread about focal length and dof for group shots. I have not used a light meter and wish I had one for practicing. I know they use this often, if not always, and I desperately want to learn the ins and outs of using one properly and efficiently. They also use reflectors on occasion, which is great. They also said they mark their lenses to help show where the subject should be positions so as not to cut off body parts, etc. Has anyone heard of or done this?
The company has allowed me to attend an upcoming picture to see how things are done, so I am definitely planning to go. They have a list of specific f-stops and ISOs for given situations (i.e. sun behind subject, cloudy day, etc.) and use the 80/20 rule (sun coming from the side of the subjects, 20% on the side of their faces).
All of this intrigues me because if I can make this work, I feel I'll be learning a great deal hands-on and the information will be invaluable.
I am nervous, but excited at the same time. Still crossing my fingers that I will be allowed this opportunity and do a good job for them. This could really be something I would be passionate about, something I've never had the benefit of at any other employer.
Thanks for any input.
