Well folks, this is my very 1st shot at a train. I have recently bought a new Canon XSi and being new to the SLR scene have learned a lot so far. This was shot in the TV mode and well I honestly forgot all the other information, but I feel like the studying is paying off. What do you guys think?

From the embedded Exif data shows that;

# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/200 second = 0.005 second
# Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 63/10 = F6.3
# ISO Speed Ratings = 200
With a focal length of 33mm

Looks like it's badged as a Ferrari? :D

Good shot. Better maybe with thunderclouds, but I don't think B&W works with an empty white sky. There's a reason that most people shoot in color?

Like I said before, I am "NEW" to all this and was playing around with my new XSi. I upgraded from a compact digital that did not take half as good a picture. I do have a few train shots in color as well. I just liked the way this picture turned out. I am sure I will change my mind once I gain more experience.

The thing about B&W is that it's actually harder to get a good shot with it than it is with color. Color adds interest. B&W has to stand on it's own.

I have to agree with Frank....this shot begs for color. Black and white is far more difficult to shoot than color and the final image is far less forgiving. Welcome to the world of trains. Hope to see many more from you...including some with color!
