I read that if you place the hood on your Tokina 12-24 f/4, that there is not need for an adapter for attaching the Cokin P to the lens. Can anybody attest to that?

I am going to Portland and Washington in around a week and buying some equipment for landscapes and scenery.

Thanks

I guess the hood's front diameter just happens to be about the 83-84 mm diameter that the outside of a Cokin threaded P insert is. I'm not all that sure I'd want to try this on a regular basis since the holder might just slide off as you try to square it up. The regular threaded inserts have a lip which the holder's tabs are able to snap over so they can't be pulled off easily.

Yeah, it makes sense. I don't think I would want to go that route. Might just go the proper way and avoid dining/breaking my equipment. So am is it correct to say that I will need to following: Cokin P, Adapter Ring (77mm), GND filters?

Thanks again.

I assume the Tokina takes a 77 mm filter, in which case, yes. Just be aware that Cokin calls their grads "Graduated Gray", and they aren't truly neutral. There's a slight brownish cast to them.

Yeah, the Tokina takes 77mm filters. I am looking into getting HiTech filters for the the Cokin-P adapter from 2filter.com

Just ordered my Hitech kit from 2filters.com and added a 3 step hard filter also. We'll see how it works.

Works fine on my ES-S 10-22mm lens yet I use the wide angle holder which is just a single filter holder instead of the standard P holder that accepts 3 filters.

I got an email from 2filters telling me that the kit was backordered and was going to take around 9 days, but by then I should already be in Washington. So I ended up going with B&H and ordered the Hitech holder instead of the Cokin brand. We'll see how it goes.
