SuzyView Cream of the Crop More info | Jun 11, 2008 08:33 | #2 Dave Terry told me to do low resolution and then when people order, change to the hi res, so you don't have to do every picture, just what people order. Well, I can't do that. So I upload a 600 dpi image that can be printed 8x10 without losing much just for people who may want that. I don't upload all the photos I take for an event, just the really good ones. Suzie - Still Speaking Canonese!

How will you know what people will order? Won't they order the low res version and then you put up the hi res version? -MasterChief- wrote in post #5701656 i upload full sized JPEGS, gives your customers a lot more flexibility when ordering --- also as an offsite backup. you can order a DVD of a gallery or of all your pics for a nominal fee. I do the same as well. I also crop really loose and let the customer decide how they want the image cropped (this really helps with different aspect ratios, although some people prefer to crop in really tight). Uploading hi res vs low res takes more time, but I usually am uploading while I am sleeping or doing something else so that time isn't an issue. I also use the "Send to SmugMug" Applet. Works great. If you are selling and only upload a file large enough for a 4x6 that's all Smuggy will allow you to sell. Anything larger will not even be an option. If you are not selling your work you can upload any size image you want. I upload full res files too with no cropping, sharpening or color adjustment. I use their proof delay and only process the files that sell. Chris
