Dave Terry told me to do low resolution and then when people order, change to the hi res, so you don't have to do every picture, just what people order. Well, I can't do that. So I upload a 600 dpi image that can be printed 8x10 without losing much just for people who may want that. I don't upload all the photos I take for an event, just the really good ones.

Hope this helped.

I always upload the full sized pic. That way Smugmug is my off-site backup too.

i upload full sized JPEGS, gives your customers a lot more flexibility when ordering --- also as an offsite backup. you can order a DVD of a gallery or of all your pics for a nominal fee.

There is no reason to specify 600 dpi. The amount of pixels is what is important. How will you know what people will order? Won't they order the low res version and then you put up the hi res version?

I do the same as well. I also crop really loose and let the customer decide how they want the image cropped (this really helps with different aspect ratios, although some people prefer to crop in really tight). Uploading hi res vs low res takes more time, but I usually am uploading while I am sleeping or doing something else so that time isn't an issue. I also use the "Send to SmugMug" Applet. Works great.

Smuugy has minimum file size requirements for prints. If you are selling and only upload a file large enough for a 4x6 that's all Smuggy will allow you to sell. Anything larger will not even be an option. If you are not selling your work you can upload any size image you want. I upload full res files too with no cropping, sharpening or color adjustment. I use their proof delay and only process the files that sell.

I've used the "Send to Smugmug" app too, it's OK but the drag and drop works just fine for me.

I also upload the full size images to smugmug. Typically let them upload overnight when I have lots. I love smugmug!

I upload the full size images, post threshing, usually overnight. This gives me the backup others have mentioned if needed.

For my VB pictures, I'll upload all images in a reduce size (768 x ?) so they are uploaded faster, and the coaches can use them to review player form or position, instead of waiting a few days for the better images to load, which may not show "the cruddy form player X is displaying on their blocks." Sat in on a few slide shows, and have had requests for specific pics of specific players to display what they're doing wrong. Now if it was only as easy to correct.

shooting club VB and club soccer, hoping to get back to landscape work soon.
