Help with Ballerina Feet!

Hello all! I took this shot of my friend last week, and I really like it, but there are always really intense shadows whenever I try to bump up the contrast or anything. Here is the photo with some pixelmator action:

In order from least to most invasive edit... pumped the highlight detail, blurred the background, colored the tape, reduced the background saturation and applied a little toenail polish.... Thanks for sharing, it's a nice image. I enjoyed playing with it and liked the tape color effect, but understand that you might not care for it since it takes emphasis away from the feet.
