I wait until Nov 1st, then I tell my wife that's it's getting close to buying Christmas gifts (she's thinking gifts for her) and I will be buying on the internet. I caution her when a package arrives, don't look at it and don't ask questions. (Again she thinks it might be for her.) I intercept the package and store it in a closet, then open it later. Works like a charm. Gear List

But once you find someone worth marrying, they're not expensive at all. It's all the shopping around and trying different products before finally finding one you like that costs money. If only there were a review site for current and previous owners of the product. ![]() Returns and Exchanges can be costly however... Jay

My husband has always said get what you want. It’s become even easier since I started passing on my used cameras and lenses to him as I upgraded. The only thing he complains about is me spending weeks (sometimes months) trying to decide which lens, prime or zoom, IS or not, etc etc. I do this by passing on my older kit to my two daughters. Sfordphoto wrote in post #6088513 ^lol nice my gf almost killed me when i told her i was going to sell my 70-200/4L non IS, because she loved the images it produced of her. i told her that the new white lens (70-200/2.8L IS) would produce the same images. at first she didn't believe me, but after i took her out on a shoot and she saw the pictures, she didn't miss the f4 version ![]() My wife was the same .. once she saw the results she was totally amazed. aerocowboy wrote in post #6250759 Try the Men In Black mind trick --- Put on some shades, fire it right at her, then tell her "I've always had this flash unit." Maybe? ![]() Tried that .. but she could still aim a punch even tho I'd blinded her .. OC Zoom wrote in post #6627975 Here's a trick I use when I want to buy a new lens or camera. Feb 06, 2009 11:30 | #280 I have no idea how my wife doesn't ask about how much this stuff costs yet. The 40D has become a 5D / 1D Mark II combo. My lenses have doubled in weight, and almost all have this bright red ring on them. I know that she fully knows, but denial is awesome. Name is Peter and here is my gear:

I had it delivered to work. I told her about it after I gave her the laptop I bought for her. Everyone was all smiles!

Initially, I had an umbrella and lightstand for my 580EX. Over the last couple of years, that morphed into an additional 3 Dlite-4 strobes, couple of octaboxes, small softbox, Hilite, several other Lastolite backgrounds, numerous stands, bags, reflectors, grids, snoots, stool, bench....(you get the idea!). After only looking puzzled on occasion, just the other day, she finally said, "Is it my imagination or are your studio lights reproducing in here?" Calmly and cooly, I said, "Do you mean that?" pointing at my new Elinchrom Deep Throat octa, "Oh, I finally got around to putting that thing together now that I need it for group shots and the reflector won't do for fill..." She went back to that same puzzled look again... Cameras: 1DX, 1D4, 20D, 10D, S90, G2

If you only have 2 or 3 she will notice an additional lens or one that dosen't look like the others. But.. if you have 10 lenses, some white, some black, some short, some fat, she will never know when you add, subtract or trade. This theory served me very well when I was amassing my SIG SAUER pistol collection. At first it was difficult to slip a new one in but then I had so many she couldn't keep up. that is very true, i got away with changing my gripped 5d with a 1dsmk2... im spying a 300 f4 or a 400 5.6 but not really sure where to "hide" it, dont wanna leave it in the car.... We both work, make decent money, live in a smallish house. We have a set amount we each contribute the house each month, and the rest we are free to do as we please with.
