Hello Everyone,

I am having issues trying to PP this photo in CS3. I thought it looked ok when I was done but now that I look at it I can see a large amount of green cast to this photo. Can someone either help me fix it along with telling me what you did or give me instruction on the best way to fix this photo.

It's funny knowing that I am asking all of you for help with pp a photo because for somereason when it comes to someone elses photo that I see here on the forums I can fix it, but my own (atleast for this photo) I am having trouble myself.

Please will someone be so kind to help me!!

My attempt.
I adjusted the saturation for the greens down a bit, bumped the overall saturation up a bit and gave it just a weee bit of gaussian blurr on a layer and then flattened the whole image.
Just my take hope it helps a bit.

Agreed. Did you use any sharpening action or filter on it too along with the adjustments you noted? Looks sharper than the original to me.

While I agree that the work is good, it's also clear that it's not simply white balance and brightening.

Wow, thanks for everyones help! I knew coming to these boards and asking for all of your help, I would get some help. V8 I think I like your version alot better than mine. How do you adjust your WB? Everytime I try mine I just cant seem to get it right. It either looks to red, blue or to green like my results.

Yes, sorry, I also created a new layer and used Noise Ninja with slight sharpening USM 50, Radius .50, and then adjusted the layer. I am glad the OP likes it.

I always open any jpegs I am going to edit in ACR and make the initial adjustments in there, sometimes using the white balance tool and sometimes just making adjustments to the temperature and tint. I adjust these until I get the results I like. I then open in PS and make any final adjustments/edits.

Use of a Custom White Balance is not the favorite past-time for photographers. However, the Canon cameras could not have made it easier. If you haven't tried it yet, get yourself a gray card (big enough to fill the screen unfocused) and try it.

It really works, and it saves you all this grief.

That is very true Robert, why do we hate it so much? I think it comes down to laziness, but in the long run it saves time to get it right from the start. I have a gray card and I also use an Expodisc with great success, but I never use them unless I am shooting something critical.

The interesting thing about this image is that the cast is not uniform. It may not necessarily be a cast, according to the numbers, but the woman's skin tone has a lot more yellow in it compared to magenta in cmyk terms. The man's skin tone is a closer mix of yellow and magenta. There are "recipes" for the cmyk ratios for caucasian skin and, although everyone is different, they give one at least a starting point for judging color. According to the original image posted at the top of the thread, the skin tones for the man are pretty good compared to a "recipe" while the woman's tones are way too yellow, hence the greenish looking appearance. The clouds in the background appear pretty reasonable in terms of neutral-to-blue. If the man is sunburnt (more magenta versus yellow than normal), for example, then my argument sort of goes out the window.

@Michilebaker - do you have any recollection of this difference in skin tone when you took the shot, assuming you took the shot? Just a thought. If the subjects are that different, any white balance technique is not going to "fix" the issue. In this case, where the skin tones are really important, maybe shooting with a reference card in an image will help (either a gray card or a color checker). In this image the skin is the focus of the image, so it is pretty important that it is correct. If the woman's skin is really that "yellow" then you can leave it or take a little creative license and pink it up a bit to suit your vision of the image without completely veering off into make believe - or, you can do whatever you;d like!

Have fun!

Kirk
