If you're shooting fish, you've got to get in closer. If you're not afraid of being hit, then you're too far away. Try to compose the shot before the skater enters the frame, so that way you don't always have to look through the viewfinder--makes it easier to pull the camera out of harm's way if a collision is about to occur. All of these are nearly dead center too, work on composing your shots better and maybe try framing him in the sky as opposed to having a tree grow out of his head? You will get better at fish, it takes awhile to learn but when you do it's really rewarding. Oh, and your new $600 lens WILL get hit at some point or another. If you're shooting action sports its just a matter of time. I've had my share of close calls, fortunately mine has never gotten the whack yet but I know it's coming.

yea i know, i need to get closer. I was actually only a foot away but it still looks like i was far away. Where do you think the best place would be to have the best angle, at the beginning of the rail? in the middle? or where. One more thing, do you think i went overboard on the saturation? I was trying to make the trees greener and the rollerblades redder.

Thanks for your help, I need it

I personally like the look of shots at the end of the rail at an angle. You can see the border/bmxer/roller blader, the rail, and wherever they are coming from.

Yea, I'd say the saturation is WAY too high. It looks unnatural.

Meh. It makes the shots almost look OOF to me, don't know why. Could you post the original here, if you have it?

See here I would have left the saturation and played with levels to pop his face. The exposure here isn't quite right, you always want to meter of his face, not the sky.

+1. also watch your backgrounds. you want to isolate the kid on the rail and that tree is killing you here.

it's a must and will probably be money better spent than new glass. flash makes all the difference (in all sorts of photographic applications). Buy something like a Sigma 530 DG ST, I think they are less than $200 brand new and much less used. You'll be very glad you did.
