Here's an HDR photo I took in SoHo, NYC. I increased the temperature of the photo in Photomatix while processing, and overlayed several vignette layers after the fact in Adobe Photoshop. Comments, criticism, any problems you see here please let me know! How might you improve this photo?

i love the post work you've done. but how in the world were you able to stand in the middle of the street in NYC to shoot an HDR without getting ran over!

the only thing is I'm not quite sure what the focal point is in this image. I almost wish there were a person running across the road (a little closer), or something like that.

Great capture. I like the colour and mood. Seems a tad dark and one foot further up the street would have cropped out some of the writing on the street.

FANTASTIC PICTURE! i really like it, if you can't tell my enthusiasm through my unabashed use of caps lock. like others have said, maybe straighten it. also, i think it would be better if there wasn't such a spill-over of light in the far distance. it washes out the buildings in the distance and it'd be cool if they were darker. great composition though.

it takes some guts to take pictures in NYC. i went a couple weeks ago to visit my friend and i felt like such a dork with my 40D that i ended up not taking any pictures, but i'll go back soon and hopefully i'll have something as cool as this.

Thanks for the great comments everyone. I have heard before, some wishes that this be a tad brighter. To be honest though, several people have attempted to edit this and I have tried reprocessing this to be lighter and it just doesn't have the same effect.

It would have been nice to have no people in this shot, but SoHo at 5pm isn't exactly deserted. I had to dart back and forth between lights to get the right shot. To address one concern that this may be a bit lopsided, I agree somewhat. BUT I believe that many elements at the center of the photo are level, however the lens I used suffers quite a lot of barrel distortion so many other elements are bent.

And finally for DrFil. I was pretty shy about taking photos in NYC myself at first (I live in the city) but if you look around you can usually spot TONS of people with cameras just like ours! So I don't feel so weird with a big heaping lens and a gigantic camera any more.

I think this is fantastic. It's a tad dark in the foreground but the colour and WB of it all is superb. Well Done.

I think it's great! In fact it reminds me of what you'd find for a background on a movie website (similar to I Am Legend, etc.)

Had there been no people at all would've been even better.
Regardless,...very nice!

Glad to hear it! Photomatix Pro is worth every cent. Explore all of the sliders and settings as throughly as possible! I'm always finding new ways to improve my images in Photomatix after the fact. Clearly making yourself very familiar with all of the settings is worth the extra effort.
