Rods = Motion Blur?

Is it true that the rods mythical creature is nothing more then a cheap o lens with motion blur?

The best explanation for rods is fast flying insects.

In a classic experiment, a rod was captures simultaneously by a conventional video camera and a high-speed camera. The conventional video camera showed a classic unidentifiable rod appearing to be a tubular lifeform with a plurality of wings. The high-speed camera, on the other hand, clearly showed the rod to be nothing but a small moth moving at top speed.

You may, however, draw your own conclusions.

But can you do the same effect on a xti? with time elapsed?

I saw a deal on TV about that and they used two different cameras just as 20droger said in his reply. I think they are only seen on motion (video) cameras. I may be wrong though.

History channel did a series called "Monster Quest". One of the episodes was about Rods.

On youtube is the episode broken down into 5 segments.
