flash head zoom indicator

I have the 30d with 430ex, the flash head zoom indicator is not showing though. I know that if you manually set the zoom, the "M" would appear otherwise it should automatically detect the zoom range, correct?
Somebody tell me what I am doing wrong please :oops:

It depends on several factors:
The lens you are using, If you have the wide panel pulled out, or if you have the head tilted.
