Buying A New Body...DMIII or Wait?

I have decided to upgrade my body from a 30D to a pro body. I love the images coming out of the DsMIII but I really do not need the 21 MP plus the fps is a little slow. I shoot sports, events, on-location portraits, and considering learning more about weddings. The new rumored 5DMIII sounds cool but I really do not need full-frame for sports and events.

In your opinion, is it pretty safe to purchase the DMIII (not Ds) or should I wait for Canon to introduce a new 10fps pro body later this year?

I understand that no one has a crystal ball but I have read the threads and haven't found anything that looks like a new high burst rate body is coming out.

Thanks in advance to everyone that replies.
Rob

If I needed one now, I'd get the 1D mk3, but I don't and I'll be upgrading at the end of the year/beginning of next year. Hopefully the new 1D will be out around that time along with the new 5D to give me a couple more options.

I have seen people saying should I get the 5d or wait for the 5d mkII for like a year now. We see where the 5d mkII is? NOWHERE to be found. So If you don't need a new body right now and are happy then wait and wait and wait and wait to see when a new will come out. The MKIII is an astounding camera and i can not say enough good things about it. If a new body is needed and the feature fit your needs then get a mkiii now or wait a couplle years and see when a new one is out.

I've seen very few threads from people buying NEW MkIIIs that have problems with the camera. Definitely no more than the normal average for any new camera threads. And that's on a body that most new users are testing to death when they initially get them. While there's always the chance of getting a dud with any new camera, I think the odds are no better or worse than with any other model at this point. I'd say go for it...just test it thoroughly within the return period. ;)

I'd get the 1DMKIII.
I saw one used for $3300 in here...which is a GREAT bargain.
I think the bad rap the 1DMKIII got early on reflects on decrease in price.

All things considering, a great camera for a very nice price, especially if you find one like-new...for $3300-$3500.

Why in the world do people think there will be a new version of this camera any time soon? If you want it/need it, get it. Very simple.

Buy the Mark III and learn how to use it. There were isusses and I beleive they have been fixed. My only problem with the Mark III is it focuses too good in some situations (focusing on individual drops of water at swim meets for instance)... learning the custom functions and when and how to use them is important......

i'll tell you that waiting for another 10fps body is a joke. when canon released the 1dmkii, people complained about a million things, even more than with the mkiii. took canon a year and a half to decide to upgrade to the 1dmkiin. reason for that was that mkii had serious problems with parts that could not be fixed (o-rings were missing, circuit board parts were not the best, etc) without an even more extensive fix than the bluedot program. if there is ever a 1dmkiiin, it'll come out next year... and last time canon did stuff it was first for olympics, then fifa world cup (1dmkii and 1dmkiin).

if you need the camera, get it now and enjoy. else, get a 5d and forget about the hype

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
