ETTL is not consistent, simply because the scene content can vary slightly or radically from shot to shot, such as due to subtle change of lens FL, not because of inherent inconsistency of the flash unit. Inconsistent, but quick to respond to changing circumstance (such as distance to subject from light)

Manual flash is consistent because it simply outputs a predetermined quantity of light for each shot, and it cares not if something bright moved into the scene or that you changed subtley the FL of your lens. But if the subject moves you do not have a adjustment of exposure to suit the new light-to-subject distance, so it is less nimble for dynamic shooting situations!

Separate issue from ETTL/Manual flash, is the question of use of Av/Tv vs. M on the camera! My suggestion is M on camera, ETTL on the flash, with use of FEC.

Admit it, Curtis. The only reason you decided to get the meter was because your white shirt was turning gray and throwing your exposure off. :p

;)

Nope, I heard that the armpit stains were too embarrassing in mixed company

. I am trying to get ready to shoot my own kids wedding and don;t want to screw it up.!

My suggestion is to NOT bring your camera, leave it to the pro and to the other guests with dSLRs, and enjoy your kids' weddings...you're the parent, for god's sake!

Here's hoping you are the father of the groom, and not the father of the bride, as your role would ordinarily be quite passive! Eat, drink, laugh. And shoot.

If you are the father of the bride, find someone else to fill in for your role as photographer for most of it. Too key a role in the wedding and reception to be playing shutterbug!

I always use manual....
I just like controlling the exposure as much as possible!
My 40D is always set to full manual, and my flash is always on manual. I find ETTL does not give decent results, therefore, I always use manual.
