PS Doesn't Recognize CR2???

Does converting to .dng format lose any information? I'm wondering if it is worth keeping the .CR2 files of it is a waste of memory space.

As I recall, just the embedded JPG. For the keepers in LR I convert everything to DNG. It allows me to work on the files in earlier versions of PS I have on other computers that do not support the 1D4 files.

I would at least keep the CR2 files as a backup. For one thing, more programs support the .CR2 files, such as the Canon Digital Photo Professional software, which I use a lot.

That won't work.
If the camera is supported, the file will still open in ACR. If the camera is not supported, it still won't.

I thought there was a update from adobe to cure that. When i did the trail of CS5. I could not open them either. Went to adobe and got the updates and everything worked fine.

OP has CS3. Not CS5

I don't know if you were addressing my post but I burn the CR2 files to BluRay discs. I never use DPP, I prefer ACR for editing.
