This discussion came up on another forum, and a link to a free service at http://tineye.com/ (external link) was posted there. I signed up to try the beta version, which put me in the que to be signed up after receiving a request confirmation via email. (It took less than 24 hours to receive the actual invitation.)
The concept is that Tin Eye will search the web for pixel matches, even after the image has been altered in Photoshop.
I think this is a "great" idea, and hope that someday this will put an end to unscrupulous individuals profiting from the works of others.
They have a neat plug in for Firefox that allows you to right click on an image where the menu will now include a search option for that image.
I'm now one of the Beta testers, but their number of listed sites has to grow to improve their data base. I've submitted ebay for starters.
Anybody else heard of them?

Bruce, that looks very interesting. Let us know how it works for you. I have heard of the concept but didn't really know of an actual product. Not sure I would like to research all my archive on the net but it would be helpful to honest people who are looking for the author of a particular work. Dishonest people would be easier to catch, and have less of an excuse for stealing an image.

I signed up, too.
Somewhere I have a link to an EXIF searcher, but have lost track of it. This seems a better method once they get everything indexed.

Thanks.

I would be flattered if anyone thought enough of my photos to steal them. I'm in the mood to be flattered, so I signed up, too.

While imitation (duplication via "right click" in this case) may be the most sincere form of flattery, if those Weasels are making a profit from my images, I at least want my cut! :p
I think I'll start submitting every online stock photo agency I run across to their search engine as well. ;)

Verizon Sprint and Time Warner are using a similar technology to find and eliminate any child porn found on their servers. Yay for them.

I'm curious to know how they do that? Do they have their own library of child porn to compare the pictures to? :| ???

There was an article on yahoo. Maybe it was the FBI. They're working with the FBI I believe and they're removing and blocking any child porn they find and any news groups, etc... that contain child porn and discussion.

I'm feel about the same way. My pictures are OK and maybe even better than the average soccer mom. My expectations are not that anyone would steal them for profit. But you never know so I am signing up as well.
