I am heading to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands next thursday for two months and was curious to know what people would recommend as far as lenses to bring with me. I am a huge fan of packing light but was thinking about bringing a lens or two more then I usually do just because it is Ecuador. This is what I have:

All Canon:

24-70L 2.8
70-200L 2.8
1.4 TC
17-40L 4.0
50mm 1.4
100mm 2.8 Macro
430EX Flash

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and taken into consideration...

Get a big, comfy (and weatherproof) bag and take all of it) & a tripod.

Might as well be prepared.

I'd leave either the 24-70 or the 17-40 home. You're duplicating focal lengths there, and there's generally plenty of light there so if you decide on the 17-40, the f/4 won't hurt you. There's probably no real need for the 50 either, as it's main benefit would be low light. Bring the rest and tons of memory.

Oh, and a circular polarizer and ND grads would also come in very handy as well. The polarizer in particular is pretty much a must have with the glare and all the water in the Galapagos.

Okay, Colby, we're waiting for your review!

Saw your website and your shots were great!

What did you take that was superefluous? What should you have taken? What should you have taken two of?

I'm trying to convince hubby to tack on a 10-day to the Galapagos after our week in Florida and need to fill up my kit gradually so as not to induce a heart attack!

I have the 24-105mm L and the 100-400mm L. I think I'm light in macro and reach, but would love your input!

Canon 5D: 24-105mm L IS, 100-400mm L IS. Canon PowerShot ELPH 340HS, Canon GII. Canon AE-1: FD 50mm, 80-200mm. Holga 120N.
