I've just bought a really good value 20D and grip to supplement my 5D. Out of curiosity, I went Googling for a date code. There's a suggestion that it's printed black-on-black somewhere in the mirror box / lens throat.

I can't see it, neither in the 20D nor the 5D; neither in bright daylight nor under a tungsten spot. Is there, in fact, such a code?

I was just thinking this same thing. Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but I figured I'd ask in it instead of starting a new and getting flammed for it lol

don't know. Probably not much point either given the limited lifepan of each DSLR model.
see the timelines on: http://en.wikipedia.org …Canon_EOS_Digital_Cameras (external link)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

With 1D series, you can find the production code (as code on L lens UXxxxx, UYxxxx...) inside the battery holder (usually next to the battery contact). Check 1Ds II and 1D III, it's true, don't know where to check the others such as 5D II or 7D, 50D (I used all of them for years but find nothing about this code).

Nothing!

I called Canon today too and they said that's not something they keep track of. So I guess there's no way to find out lol
