I love the old school Boston Braves uniforms, but they do look more "updated"

Thanks, y'all. Been out shooting kids all-star softball all day.

The lighting may look similar on some of these, but it really wasn't (actually, if you think about it, having the light look "similar" under varying conditions is what you're aiming for - it's called proper exposure). I shoot in Av, and monitor my shutter speed as the light changes. Yeah, this can lead to shutter speeds bouncing around from 1/1600s to 1/8000s, requiring one to keep playing with the ISO, but I'm used to it, so don't think it's so bad.

Yep, I do have others of the Braves. I'll see what else I might be able to post after tomorrow's softball.

BTW, the only non-authentic things on the retro uni's were the shoes, the helmets (they didn't wear helmets back then) and the gloves (and maybe the material the uni's were made of - I believe MLB uniforms used to be 100% wool - these were probably some sort of blend). I really liked the Cubs' uniforms to look at, even if they weren't the easiest to photograph. And I also loved the hats, even if they looked like a darker version of the Bears. The Braves uni's did look an awful lot like today's - I agree, Chris.

Here's the REST of the story.

The first two digits are the years since winning the Division. The second two are years since winning the Pennant (years since playing in a World Series) and the final two are years since winning the World Series.

And, the digits don't turn over until the year is over. The "AC" is for "Anno Catuli", or the "Year of the Whelps"

And the numbers work out this way: the Cubs last won the Division in 2007, won the Pennant last in 1945 and last were World Champions in 1908; this year's board looks like this AC006299. Setting the season to 1948, since there were no "divisions" in 1948, ends up with _ _ 0239. I guess they just used the first two zeros as place holders so you end up with 000239.

I think this sign first appeared atop the Lakeview Baseball Club (the building on Sheffield, just over the right field wall) in 2003.

Thanks for playing!

These shots are all amazing. Were you in the dugout box seats or section 14?

You forgot to mention the Eamus Catuli sign, which is supposedly "Go Cubs" in Latin.

Yeah, you're right. I translated that on another board. I think it actually means "Let's Go Whelps", since there is no Latin word for Cubs.

The Windy City Whelps! 2008 World Series champions. I'll take it !

No, these are all taken from the third base photo well. I normally shoot roughly half the game from third base and half from first base, but the fact that both pitchers (Hudson and Zambrano) went deep into the game, were right-handers and because of this Chipper Jones was hitting left-handed kept me planted in the third base well through the entire game.

Beautiful shots. I eventually want to move exclusively to baseball shots and perhaps urban shots (those are the two subforums i look atmost). How much PP is involved when you take these shots or are they mostly directly from the camera?

Brian - Thanks. I do a standard PP sharpening and slight tone adjustment which I do as a batch action in PS. I also crop/straighten them individually.

In-camera sharpening isn't very effective, so I leave it until post.
