Hi

I have around 200 shots hidden away on my CF card that I cant get access to. I know they are there, as the 'shots left' indicator is down to 122 on a 4gb card, and they just started to not show up half way thru the day. I've tried a few photo recovery progs but none recognise my canon 400d when I plugged it in, even tho the computer itself shows it is connected.

Any ideas how i can get my photos back anyone?

thanks

You need to get a card reader. They are inexpensive and a much more efficient way to transfer your images to your PC. You may have a corrupted card but try a card reader before doing anything else.

Thanks Pinto. I was half a step ahead and bought one already just to try it, so it's good you suggested the same. Will have to wait into the week til I receive it, so will have to sweat it out til then.

Well I went and bought one on the net before I thought of getting one from the local shop! Ah well. Fingers crossed. I'm quietly confident I can get them back, as the "number of shots left" is way below what it should be so it appears the camera knows the shots are on the card, it just can't give me access to them. Maybe a corrupt index or whatever the equivalent filing system used on the cards is.

I shall report back...

All is recovered. Bought a cheap CF card reader and used PC inspector smart recovery to (slowly!) gather them all in.

Phew:oops:

Congratulations! I know that's a big relief for you. Do you have an idea of what created the problem in the first place?

No I'm afraid not. Pretty new card, used it for a month in india with no problems. Then this. Just used it again to see if it's ok and seems to be fine. I reformatted the card tho, so hopefully that has tidied things up.

Will shout back if / when I know more.
