I currently, only have, an Ultra II 4gb CF card for my 40D (I also have a Ultra II 0.5gb card, and a 1gb no name (same speed as Ultra II)).

Anyway... I just recently noticed that the max high speed burst is 6 frames, than it slows down!
Is this due to the Ultra II speed?? I read the extreme III lets you do high speed burst up to 75 frames! Is it this big of an improvement?

I just noticed the Sandisk rebates (Visa prepaid card, or Sandisk credit). It makes the Extreme III 4gb, only $34.50 (at B&H). So I was wondering if i should buy it. If I do, WILL I be able to hit 75 frames at 6.5 fps before it slows down?? Or did I read\hear wrong??
I also heard that I should get several 2gb cards, instead of one or two 4gb cards. Because, if the 4gb card dies, you lose 4gb of pictures...
I do believe this, but the Extreme III's have a lifetime warranty, guarantee they wont break\fail, and if they do, they will replace the card for free! I also believe the Extreme III cards come with their recovery software, so I could just recover the photos off the card if it does die.

Also, if I buy the Extreme III 4gb, should I sell my Ultra II 4gb to help fund it?? I am only 15, and I only have $47-$55. So I need all the help I can get... But idk if I should just keep the Ultra II as backup, or just in case I ever run into a situation where I need to take over 1.2k pictures before uploading to the computer... I can get 2, Extreme III 2gb cards for $43 (after the rebate)... If everyone insists this is the better route, alright, but I would rather have the 4gb so I don't have to swap cards too much.

Sorry if this is confusing!

You should be reaching your camera's bust rate regardless of what card you use. The pictures are saved on the camera internal bust (75 for 40D using JPEG and 17 with RAW) before they go onto the card. Once this is reached then the card used will determine the speed till the internal bust is at least partially emptied and can be used again. I believe you can its expect about 2-3 frames a sec after the internal bust is filled prior to emptying. To me the 17 frames with RAW is plenty for nearly all situations. I think you'll be fine keeping your current card and as far as using larger ones although many might re frame from big cards I've yet to have any issues even with cheapos so I'm ok with using larger ones I have an 8GB Extreme III myself. Make sure you don't have high ISO noise reduction selected all the time as this reduces the speed as it has to take another exposure after the inital one for noise reduction processing and this might be your only issues.

You probably have HTP turned on, thus the slowdown.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Wow... thanks a ton! You just saved me about $40 :D
I just checked, and noise reduction was on... Yeah, now it shows 75 frames as being max buffer size... Thanks again!
