On a 9 day trip, way behind and haven't had 5 mins to myself yet so taking a break by posting some stuff from today...

Equip. used: Mark IIn, 20D, 300 2.8 IS, 50mm 1.4, 580 EX was all used...

A normal schedule for the life in the minors....

10am - wake up and hurry downstairs to get the free breakfast that won't sit well all day.

10:30am - check emails, start working on the images from a few nights ago because you're so far behind.

11am - pack up and shower, hurry up the front desk is calling!!

12am - steal everything you should of used but didnt, like coffee and extra soaps, get on the road. Luckily you drove 2 1/2 ours after the game last night so are only 20 mins from the stadium.

1pm - start trying to do those pics you started in the morning, in the stadium press box which doesn't have the air conditioning on.

2pm - realize the pitchers are hitting the field early for some reason...try to hurry but you just can't finish - haul down to the field.

2:10pm - ask why the pitchers are hitting since it's an American League team and A-ball NEVER hits! Oh, it's a for fun home run derby - shoot and get standard "emergency" shots while watching the good times.

3pm - The position players start to arrive and you realize that the minor league diet has allowed some players to let go a bit.

...but even chunky they want to get to the bigs so must put in full effort.

3:05pm - others arriving must be properly equiped for practice...

3:15pm - with 15 mins to go before team stretch your coach makes you take headshots, one chooses to do the pose from a 1952 topps card.

3:40 - Pitchers throwing in the OF, realize every time the camera points to his direction he smiles.

4pm - shoot the home teams BP/infield practice

4:50pm - the other team arrives and hits the OF to warm up, then suddenly one is attacked by a ball.

5pm - shoot the visiting teams BP/infield...

5:50pm - a break, go upstairs and check your mail while trying to find a hotel - realize too much time has gone by and you need to get back to the field.

6:20pm - start shooting the visiting teams headshots as they come out for pre-game stretch....(this kid happened to grow up around my area).

7pm - finish shooting the above headshots, change lenses/settings and get behind the catcher for warmup pitches. Give the chin up hello to the home plate ump you've know for a few years, exchange pleasant hellos even though you can't hear a word he's saying.

7:05pm - game time...(I now have more pics of this kid than his mother, prospect got a lot of my cameras attention today).

9:05pm - pack your gear, talk a bit with another photog and a coach who you grew up watching as one of your favorite players - ask yourself if you ever got that card signed in the team set when you were 9 years old and wonder what box it's in at home - that other photog takes a pic of you two together.

9:15pm - Lunch!! Head to the press box, grab some food, check again for a hotel - dont find any. Eat something that was food, maybe, but tasted fine. Talk and peace out.

10pm - find that red roof inn you knew you saw...

10:30pm - start downloading your pics, wait while going to find out why the internet doesn't work.

11pm - internet fixed, find a hotel for the next 2 days, success!! Check a bunch of other things.

12am - start deleting the crap from the days game. Drink lots of liquid.

1am - start this post but when writing the 12am sentence above you accidently hit refresh somehow while typing and lose it all.

1:31am - scream and start over

1:36am - get an email from the other photog of you and the coach, realize you need a new diet stat!

1:48am - hit enter

The future...

1:50am - start finishing those files you started at 10:30am

?am - when done say screw the other games and get sleep, you have a 2 hour drive to the next stadium tomorrow morning for a day game!

Good question, maybe fit it in once rookie ball starts....we all know those rookie ball photog groupies travel in packs, they're everywhere! Wait, I may be wrong!

My word Mike.... you must be kn***ered

My advice is to hire an assistant!

Anyway... an excellent insight to your current frenzy of work! Keep beavering away.

Nice shots. Really sharp.

A good friend of mine played for Whitecaps last year. I saw several games. They had a good year.

Thanks for the comments...

Sleep is so overrated, :D - definately non-stop but that's not a bad thing. Good time on the road, vacation/work basically. Today is the first "break" kind of with the HR derby and not having to be there until later. However, have three games to still sort and go through so far behind.

Gavin, I can't figure it out - what is kn***ered? Maybe it's the just waking up but it's not registering, maybe after the coffee. If I could afford an assistant I would get one to do the tedius stuff, but when nickle and diming already that won't happen.

Tom - who's that? He still in the Tigers system?

I hate it when baseball's attack, especially when they go after photographer's.

Nice series Mike. I wish I could have made it down to South Bend but I just got home from my trip way too late.

Sure, excuses excuses! I just finished sorting that game, now to rename, caption, pick and crop that game before starting the next one...well, after the HR Derby today that is if it happens with the bad weather.

Got him at the ASG, no action - just this stuff...hopefully see him in Erie as that's my local AA team (2 hours is local I guess).

Here is one of Duane, it was dark and hard to get his face brighter, but it was an enjoyable evening.

Nice set Mike. Sorry too that I got jammed and couldn't make it. Sounds like you shot enough for both of us though. I think next game you should wear the sumo suit. Seeing someone shooting in that getup would be awesome!

btw, I LOVE the retro pose, that flat owns!
