Tripod for starters

So what is a good starter tripod for beginner? Not cheap but good.


Canon 40D, 17-85mm and 70-300 Canon lenses. Lens hoods for both. 430ex flash and a Lowepro sling bag.

Have you read the tripod FAQ sticky? Lot and lots and lots of info there. Also read: http://www.bythom.com/​support.htm (external link)

A good tripod and head for ~300 bucks is the Manafrotto 55Prob and 488RC2 head. A good tripod and head for 1000+ is the gitzo 2530 or 2540 and a Kirk, RRS or markins ball head.

All depends on what you shoot.
