I would love some feedback from others on the pseudo HDR (done with Gimp) of Burney Falls in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park in California. Looking back at it now, I wish I had been a little further to the right to get the other side of the falls in the picture and I wish there were a little more detail in the trees. I have gotten positive feedback from family on this one, but I think I probably need to be knocked back down to size. :-) My original thoughts were that it is too dark, but I couldn't do anything else without really blowing part of it out. This is three images combined, each one stop apart from the other.

Critique and advice are always appreciated, even when it's brutally honest.

I like this! I also use GIMP. I've yet to try HDR with it. However, if you put your three bracketed images together, wouldn't it be a true HDR rather than pseudo? Perhaps, I don't completely understand what pseudo means. In anycase, you captured the waterfall very nice.

Thanks GR8FUL DAD. It is my understanding that because GIMP only allows 8 bits per channel, it cannot be a true HDR. As I understand it, to be considered a true HDR photo, you need 32 bits per channel. I am not an expert though, I could be misunderstanding something.

Thanks again for the compliment. By the way, the tutorial I used to do this is found at http://www.instructables.com/id/HDR-photos-with-the-GIMP/ (external link)

I gotcha, 32 bits per channel makes sense. Thanks for the tutorial link, I am putting together an HDR now. Thanks!

nice picture! but the scene is cool enough as it is that i almost think i'd like it more if you took it in front of the trees rather than behind them.

Thanks DrFil, I wish I had thought of that while I was there. I could have stayed at this spot for a while taking pictures, but the family was not as keen on the idea as I was. :-)
