I was wondering if you can use strobes and ETTL flash metering system? Forgive me as I have never even used this on my canon 580ex's. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are referring to studio lighting and not the 580 EX, then I believe the answer is no as there is no way for the camera and the studio lighting to communicate.

No way to use ETL to control output of studio flash (may be one or two exceptions to this statement, but probably not)

Thanks guys, I thought not. Looks like I am going have to get myself a metering system of some sort. Cheers

Manual mode on the camera, and a Sekonic L-358 Meter (external link). Add some Pocket Wizards (external link) plus the L-358 wireless card and you are all set.
