Well I have owned a few monopods in my time from the dirt cheap 7dayshop special to a branded carbon fibre elite model and none have satisfied. I see the potential in them but it is getting the right balance between price, usability, speed, strength, sex appeal and weight. Finally I found it in the Slik Pro 600 and at price that can't be ignored.

Slik's A.M.T. super titanium alloy leg offers 40% greater strength to weight ratio over the standard aluminium used in many monopods. Weighing just 600gms you ain't gonna get no hernia carrying this stick around.

The finish is nothing but classy. It looks like a serious piece of kit. The 4 leg section design folds to a nicely compact 21 inches but if you fully extend it comes out at 63 inches tall - easily long enough for me at a pretty standard 5'10" (shorter folks just leave a leg clamped shut) and that is without the head and camera mounted.

The leg locks are strong and tight and flick quick and nice. A decent foam grip means weight doesn't bite into your shoulder when carrying and no need to worry on those chilly days either. Even with the mk II N and gimbal mounted I could carry it all day. A wrist strap means you ain't gonna drop your gear if your grip slips anytime.

So with a standard retail price of around £50 I pronounce this a bargain.

Hi Condyk.
Had a look at your 'A Photographers Eye 1', very moving stuff, I must admit it moved me to tears! did me a lot of good, really, so much to say about those shots and the people that took them that it would take me a week to get it all out.

By the way, what's a 'Wimberley', I'm guessing it's the 'Shepherds Crook' thing at the camera end, can you rescue sheep with that! ;)

I got it off these guys (external link)but they don't seem to stock it any more. They do have the Mk 1 Wimberley clone still and the lens plates. I did a review of my Kirk clone here

Yeah, pretty amazing stuff in there. Strange but you never thing 'sharpness' when you look at those kinda shots eh ;-)a The emotional power and composition wins every time. We are all capable of horror and beauty, cruelty and pain.

Nice Debbie ... at that price it is a steal IMO. Nothing fancy, just does the job it has to do and looks the part.
