It's not an Intel

It's an AMD

If you qualify for Dell EPP there are some good buys to be had.

And a link to the current HP specials:

rhom, thank you so much! I'm not completely sure what that means yet, but it's a good start. If I look at HPs, for instance the below, how can I tell that a certain Intel processor is inside of it?

http://www.newegg.com …aspx?Item=N82E16883107653 (external link)

Hi skywalkerbeth,

The unit at the link that you just listed does not use an Intel CPU. It uses an AMD CPU. I don't pay much attention to AMD CPUs so I cannot comment upon their various models.

The original link that you cited a while back, http://www.newegg.com …t/Produc...82E16883103140 (external link)
lists a quad core Q6600 2.4 GHz. The Q6600 is one of the Intel Core 2 Quads that were on the Intel link that I gave.

PC retailers will be proud to state that a PC has either an Intel or AMD CPU. Current Intel CPUs are typically listed as Intel Core 2 Duo (for 2 CPUs on the same chip) or Core 2 Quad (4 CPUs), then with a model number like E6850, E6750, Q6600, etc., and sometimes the CPU clock speed. Just compare these descriptions with the Intel links that I gave to you. That's how you tell what processor is inside the PC. Simple, huh?

Best Wishes

Rick :)

To be frank, I'd suggest a Macbook or Macbook Pro for you. If you're not very computer savvy, they're very easy to set up and get everything going, and they're much easier to maintain.

I've owned PC's for over 20 years, and I use one at work and at home, but my main computer is my Macbook Pro (lowest end, refurb costed me about $1600). It's more expensive but the monitor is very good and the form factor and design is second to none. Because Apple has control over both the OS and the hardware, they have more control over the quality of the overall experience.

If you live near an Apple Store, service is quick and easy. Every time I've had an issue with my laptop (the battery life was jumping around) I'd walk into my local store, about 5 mi. away, and walk out about 15 min. later with a new battery.

They're more expensive than PC's, but it's like purchasing a good camera bag or tripod. It's the little things that make it worthwhile. Most of my friends have switched over to Apple laptops, too.

This is all my opinion, of course. I still work with PC's daily and have built several systems, so please, no flamewars.

Recently (1 month ago) switched from a Dell (Windows) desktop to an Apple Mac Book Pro and wonder what took me so long. . .

I use the same external monitor that I used with my PC + I use the 15" laptop screen (which, with LED backlighting is pretty nice).

I run a dell insperon with a 19 inch wuuxga monitor and i love the picture quality. Since im also currently on a US Navy public relations tour of 21 different countries i also needed storage options. Iomega makes a palm size 160 gig harddrive i love. It is USB 2.0 powered and fits in the palm of my hand. Unfortunately cant say the same with my laptop. i find buy the best scrren on a laptop and i think it will give even the mac desktop a run for its money in picture quality.
