I recently purchased my new Canon Rebel XSi camera. I am still VERY new to the SLR world. My question... is this lens worth having for a newbie like myself?

The retailer that I purchased my camera from is now offering this lens in the package that I purchased last week. I was unsure if I should check and see if they would honor this with my package.

Thanks,
Scott

Get the 55-250, it's far better :)

Take a look at this thread...sample images from that lens.

Decide for yourself if you think the images are worth the extra money.

It's probably worst lens I've had to deal with. Worse than the kit lens (18-55 non-IS).

If you must get this lens at least get the USM version. The 70-300 replacements are far superior.

The 55-250 IS is way ahead in the game AND it complements your 18-55 IS very nicely.

But if your budget is no more than a hundred bucks, I have the 75-300 for sale.

Sorry for the shameless plug, but even crappy lenses must sell, once in a while.

Being that I am so new and all, I think I am going to go ahead and spend the $40ish difference and purchase this lens. I believe for someone starting out in SLR that is on somewhat of a budget, this would be a good investment of $40 bucks. Thanks for the information though guy's.

Scott

I think these images prove, yet again, that it's NOT the lens or camera that take good photographs.

Thanks a lot for all the great advise guy's. I decided not to get the additional lens that I first talked about which was the 75-300mm. I went ahead and bit the bullet and purchased this one last night instead Canon 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS EF-S USM LENS. It should be here on Friday of this week, so I can hardly wait.
