I have read somewhere that Sigma 500 Super acts as a slave ie we can fire the flash keeping it on stand and trigger with the pop up flash.

Is that possible with 430 EX i mean, can i keep the flash on stand and fire with the pop-up flash?

I am not familiar with master, slave concept but want to try keeping 430 EX on stand and fire. Any ideas?

The 430 EX and the 430 EX II can work as slave flash units. However, on the camera you need something like the 580 EX II to act as a master flash, or the ST-E2 infrared flash controller/transmitter. The built-in flash can't work as a flahs master (for some incredibly stupid reason, as it would have been a great idea).

Although, you could buy a flash sensor for the off camera flash like I just did. I know it would be a bad idea for wedding or events because everyone elses camera would trigger the flash, but it should be fine for portraits or around the house
